In order to compete with the brand new 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class set to be unveiled this year, BMW will launch a facelifted version of its 7-Series, which has been spied testing in prototype form, and now with the least camouflage yet.
The latest shots show three different prototypes, each testing a different a powertrain destined for the car.
The shots also show that BMW is leaving the styling of its flagship sedan mostly unchanged.
That’s because the bulk of the changes will be taking place under the skin, including some revisions to the engine lineup. However, there will be some subtle changes to the exterior as can be seen by the new bumpers, which resemble the units on the new 2012 3-Series.
In addition to this, the overall shape of the headlights will remain the same but new LED accents will feature. The indicator lamps will consist of a new row of LEDs situated at the top of the headlight unit. BMW should also offer an all-LED headlight option, just as it doing with the new 6-Series range.
Within each vehicle, there is a level of potential that needs to be unlocked. One of the easiest and least expensive ways to do this is by attacking the headlights. BMW 7 Series News
An all-new Seven that actually doesn’t look like it. It’s a great car – but some reservations about the ride and driving dynamics remain. Which is a weird thing to say about any BMW. Engines and gearboxes are superlative though.
New suspension that can cycle between Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus is a boon, but the big BMW never really settles in any of the modes. There's too much wind noise, too much bobble and far too much tweakery through the steering - the old car was better. Ooops. Still, we're talking about degrees of issues - it's lovely if you've come from, say, a 5-Series, but Merc S-Class owners won't be impressed.
You can't argue with the way any of the variants goes in this generation - there isn't a duffer in this bunch. The best is the 730d - it hits 62mph in 7.2 seconds and 153mph with 41.5mpg economy. If you want the big hitter, then you need the 760Li; 6 litres of twin-turbo V12 power, 544bhp, 553lb ft of torque - it's fast and surprisingly fun - if you really need more than 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and a limited 155mph top end, then you're a faster driver than us...
The gadgets on the Seven make it cool in itself, even if it is a bit sober-suited. Side-view cameras, infra-red head-up, speed-limit readers, four-wheel steer - it has it all. And there's something cool in it being quite quiet-looking - you just don't expect what it serves up.
The ride and wind noise issues might bother you if you're a sound-specialist, but otherwise the quality is top end. The cabin has a massive multimedia screen, the iDrive is now properly sorted - it's a very good thing. There's something about sitting in the driving seat of a big BMW that feels right.
Four-wheel steer (a first on a BMW) gives stability at high speeds and a real smile when you try to park - it's got a great turning circle. It does the usual trick of shrinking when you go faster - but the steering is possibly a little too ‘connected'. For this class of car everything needs to be a bit more wafty - the German connection seems to have forgotten.
The new Seven is biiiiiig. There's space for Playboy Bunnies galore, or hefty business guts. The boot is huge, and you get a massive range from a 730d. Even parking is easy - radar parking sensors and that turning circle work in the real world.
The BMW 730d is remarkably useful - you'll get 41.5mpg, 178g/km of C02. Ok, so it's a bit expensive and insurance is high, but it's worth it. If you want to simply ignore any credit crunchery, then go for that 760Li - 21.7mpg (which isn't that bad considering the performance) and group 20 insurance.
What would you say the 7 Series is known for? Performance? Comfort? Style? There’s probably a good chance it’s a combination of all three and that’s fine. It’s what makes it special. But to those who drive it, they like to get even more involved, throw in even more detail to make their presence known. A BMW 7 Series Grill is almost always the answer, and CARiD.com has the selection you need that brightens up the entire picture. The luxurious accents that ignite intrigue and individuality are always on tap right here. From names like Asanti®, Giovanna™, and Race Mesh, the world class quality for BMW 7 Series Grills isn’t just met – it’s exceeded. Throw in CARiD.com’s discount prices and you have a recipe for success. When it’s time for you to knock on some front-end fashion, your BMW 7 Series Grill is our first priority.

2012 BMW 7-series
2012 BMW 7-series. With so many configurations of the 7, it's no surprise that BMW is leaving it as is this year and focusing more on other models. This luxury sports sedan carries the enthusiast torch with the factory- tuned Alpina B7 whose twin-turbo V-8 has an increased output of 500 bhp, which is enough to rival the straight-line performance of the V-12-powered 760Li. The Alpina, of course, takes to corners far more readily. At the other end of the fuel consumption spectrum is the 740i with its 315 bhp turbocharged inline-6, and twin-turbo V-8 hybrid that's consumption of 17/24 mpg is about equal. This year, the ActiveHybrid 7 can be fitted with an M Sport Package giving it good looks, performance and economy.

MANSORY 7 series.
MANSORY Switzerland AG is one of the leading addresses when it comes to the exclusive modification of luxury cars. The company confirms this fact once again wîth its developments for the current BMW 7 series (model F01 and F02). It produced an entire tuning programme and makes the four-door limousine even more dynamic and unique.
The look of the MANSORY aerodynamics kit is based on vibrant elegance. The component parts of the front bumper perfectly blend in wîth the fitted LED daytime running lights and the new carbon radiator grill and turn the MANSORY 7 series front into a dynamic eye-catcher. The roof BMW spoiler, the rear rim and the rear apron designed in the diffuser look also interact outstandingly. The MANSORY sports exhaust system renders an impressive growling sound. The end mufflers are made of stainless steel and the rectangular end pipes perfectly integrate into the newly designed rear section.

BMW 7-Series 760iL.
BMW 7-Series 760iL received a serious upgrade package from the German specialists – Tuningwerk. The long wheelbase version of the model is boosted to whopping 720PS (530 kW) and 1090Nm (804 lb-ft) of torque.
The performance is rather impressive – 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h (218 mph). More is better, but in terms of power, but the weight has been reduced for maximum performance.
The huge car is 120 kg lighter than the original version thanks to some carbon fiber parts including lightweight carbon-ceramic brakes and a new sport BMW exhaust system. The total weight of the car is 2030 kg.
The price is hefty, too. Tuningwerk BMW 7-Series 760iL costs €198 000, which is decent for such comfort and speed. This is the fastest full-size luxury car on the planet.

2012 BMW 7-Series.
The 2012 BMW 7-Series ranks 6 out of 11 Super Luxury Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 41 published reviews and test drives of the BMW 7-Series, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
Reviewers love the 2012 BMW 7-Series for its nimble handling and comfortable interior, but say the 7-Series’ cabin isn’t quite as luxurious as other super luxury cars.
For 2012, the BMW 7-Series continues to balance comfort with an engaging driving experience. Three engine choices are available in the 7-Series, including a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine in 740i and 740Li models. While standard V8 powerplants are common among super luxury cars, test drivers say there’s no need to avoid six-cylinder 7-Series if you’re concerned about power. Edmunds says it's just as quick from zero to 60 mph as a Lexus LS.
Still, if you’re shopping for a sedan with ample power, BMW offers turbocharged V8 and V12 engines that make the 7-Series accelerate just as well as it handles. Most reviewers also approve of BMW’s Driving Dynamics Control, which allows ride control and steering adjustments that range from “Comfort” to “Sport +”. Still, shoppers looking for a car with a posh, serene ride should be aware that the 7-Series is more of a driver’s car than some of its rivals.
What would you say the 7 Series is known for? Performance? Comfort? Style? There’s probably a good chance it’s a combination of all three and that’s fine. It’s what makes it special. 2011 BMW 750Li ActiveHybrid.
2011 BMW 750Li ActiveHybrid, an AutoWeek Drivers Log Car Review.
This 2011 BMW 750Li ActiveHybrid is a weird car. Well, the drivetrain is weird at least. The herky-jerkiness of the hybrid system is disconcerting. Like the Lexus LS hybrid, applying the brake seems to make the car actually pick up speed for a second before the car starts to slow down--the brakes are inconsistent at best. Then, press the gas after sitting at a light, and there's a definite hesitation.
This car is hard to drive smoothly in stop-and-go traffic. It's not as bad as the big Lexus, but somewhat disconcerting nonetheless.
Once under way it drives fine, like any other7-series. Acceleration is more than brisk (after that initial hesitation), and the rolling kickdown when one stomps on the gas is impressive, to say the least. The thing is fast. And on the road it's nimble and light on its feet for such a big luxury boat. Of course, it's silent and smooth--and fast--on the freeway
The interior is huge and comfortable and the build quality is up among the best in the business.
Every driver notices the switch. What starts off as a breeze turns into a howl. You go from effortlessly cruising down the highway to careening in and out of your lane. Wind Deflectors cut down the airstreams and raindrops that hamper your daily travels. CARiD offers a terrific selection of Side Window Deflectors that make driving during blustery weather more manageable than ever. All of our BMW Rain Deflectors come from brand names like WeatherTech® and PUTCO® to guarantee top-quality unmatched anywhere else. Easy installation with a smooth custom fit make Wind Deflectors a "must have" for all!
